About

I am a dancer, photographer, painter and writer; and I’m interested in physics, particularly astrophysics.

I have co-written, together with Professor Ofer Lahav, head of Astrophysics at University College London, two articles about dark energy, the mysterious substance thought to make up 75% of the universe:

‘Dark energy: back to Newton?‘ in Astronomy and Geophysics magazine, Volume 49, Issue 1, pages 1.13–1.18, February 2008, and ‘Dark energy: how the paradigm shifted’, in Physics World, January 2010 issue.

  2. Astrophysics vs Poetry (or : “Big Bang” according to the 19th century poet):

Polish poet Juliusz Słowacki [1809-1849] wrote between 1843/4-1846? a mystical prose poem entitled “Genesis from the Spirit” published in 1871. If we reduce the mystical parts of the poem to a minimum we arrive at a poetic description of the “Big Bang” :

“…The Spirit… turned one point… of invisible space into a flash of Magnetic-Attractive Forces. And these turned into electric and lightning bolds – And they warmed up [in the Spirit… You, Lord, forced him…] to flash with destructive fire… [You turned the Spirit… into] a ball of fire and hung him on the abysses… [And here… a circle spirits… he grabbed] one handful of globes [and swirled them around like a fiery rainbow]… “

So the poet described here a certain physical process with the following steps or stages :
    – a flash of « Magnetic-Attractive Forces » (at one point of space)
    – transformation into ˮelectric and lightning forcesˮ
    and then:
    – ˮwarming upˮ,
    – – a destructive flash of fire, a fireball.
    and finally appears
    – ˮhandful of globesˮ…

This is how poetic intuition could anticipate the scientific discoveries… (see : https://www.salon24.pl/u/edalward/1334289,big-bang-according-to-the-19th-century-polish-poet-j-slowacki for more information )

  3. I just read your poems in obsessed with pipework. I love the spaces between the sentences that allow us to fill-in what we want. And I love the personal journey in lines like: every day, I learn something new, I have lost the accent I never had, I need to redefine my priorities. How can I read more of your poems?

    • Hello! Thank you for your kind comments! As you can see from this under-updated site, I’ve been very sporadic about putting stuff out into the world. I do have a lot of poems, but most of them aren’t published. And if I self publish them then I can’t send them to magazines. However, I am working on this, or anyway planning to work on this very soon! I appreciate your encouragement.
